Are the needles painful?
Being pricked with the special needle conductors can be felt but is usually painless. The needles are thin and not comparable with a hospital injection needle. The stimulation of the energy can usually be felt - a bit like a short shock.
Is a doctor’s referral necessary?
A referral by your doctor is not needed. Most doctors have positive views on acupuncture. If you wish, I can keep your doctor informed of your treatment.
What about the danger of infection from the needles?
In my practice I use sterile disposable needles. Just as happens at your doctor’s, the needles are collected in a special needle container to eliminate the chance of infection.
Can acupuncture also have a preventative function?
Yes. One example of preventative treatment is in the area of hay fever. Another is with RSI (repetitive strain injury) and burn-out.
